ANZAC Day

Year 11 Cadet and SRC students together with our EMC Captain and Vice-Captain attended the annual Legacy ANZAC day commemoration service. Every year, Sirius College students attend the Shrine of Remembrance and prepare the rosemary springs that are worn by all official attendees and serviceman.

Rosemary is an ancient symbol of fidelity and remembrance. The aromatic herb grows wild on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey, where the original Anzacs served in World War I. Australians traditionally wear sprigs of rosemary as a symbol of remembrance on Anzac Day or Remembrance Day.

“Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.” - Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - Commander of Ottoman forces at the Dardanelles during the first WW.

Thank you to our students for displaying great responsible behaviour.

Lest We Forget
